BOINC is a small program that works in the background to allow users to donate computer-processing time while your computer is sitting idly. There are 30+ non-profit scientific projects including research on: cancer, proteins, genetics, weather, space, physics, math and others. You can pick the project or projects to which you wish to contribute. Projects are university sponsored research that need more processing time than they can afford. IBM and the University of California have teamed together to not only use donated computer’s idle time, but also smart phone’s idle time.
